Import Process Stalled

    I’m trying to import posts into a new blog fictionfrontier.wordpress.com and it seems the process has stalled. It’s been running for hours now and I know it usually doesn’t take this long.

    Can someone help please?

    Did you get any errors when you tried to do the transfer?

    I am assuming that you are trying to move posts from
    sfarnell.wordpress.com.
    to
    fictionfrontier.wordpress.com?

    Hi there,

    Is the site you created the XML export file from still online? If so post the URL here.

    Did you remove all unapproved comments, spam and advertising before you made the XML export file?

    Sometimes the importer gets stuck. If the file is large you may have to import Posts, Pages, etc. in separate files. Or if the file is very large Staff may have to do the import.

    The site in importing from is sfarnell.wordpress.com and it’s still online. I removed all of the crap from it the other day and the file shouldn’t be too big as it wasn’t all the posts.

    I think it just might be stuck!

    Thanks for the URL. What is the size of the XML export file? All you need now is patience while waiting for Staff. :)

    Hi there,

    I’ve reset the importer on your site, so you should be able to restart the import now. Please let me know if it stalls or fails again.

    Hi,

    Which site did you reset the importer on? The fictionfrontier.wordpress.com importer is still showing as trying to import.

    I also have another question on the import / export process. I have four XML files from the export to import into the new site. Are these files imported individually or all at once?

    That’s the site where I reset it.

    Are you using the importer at My Site ->Settings? There’s an known issue where that importer can show an import in progress when in fact it’s not.

    But it looks like you’ve since been able to successfully import two files. Did you use the importer in WP-Admin instead?

    That importer is again showing an import as in progress, but that’s likely the last import you started since updating this thread. If that imports becomes stuck as well, let me know, but we should at least give it a couple hours.

    As you’ve also probably figured out, the files are imported one at a time :)

    Hi,

    Apologies I was going to get back sooner. I used the importer in Admin and this seems to work fine. It seems that as you said the importer in settings was showing that it was importing when it wasn’t.

    I’ve been installing one at a time and I’m good now. Thank you very much for your help it’s appreciated :-)
