import process was incomplete

Hi sir, I used Xanga before, wish to import it all to wordpress.com. I followed the procedures including created a Xanga export file from http://xanga.com/wp-admin/index.php, downloaded the 5873308_1.zip which consist of 4 .xml files: 5873308_1.xml
    5873308_2.xml
    5873308_3.xml
    5873308_4.xml
Then go to WordPress.com blog’s Dashboard, go to Tools → Import. Choose the “Xanga” option, Click on the button “Choose File” and find the first .xml files, chosen and click on the button “Upload file and import”. Got email confirmed the import was successful. Then do this with each of the import files I received from Xanga.com, However, when I check my site, it only display contents from 23 Oct 2004 until 14 Nov 2008, actually my posts should include some posts before the year of 2004 and some after 2008 until the year of 2013. Therefore, it seems that the import process was incomplete. Kindly advise what I have done wrong? Appreciated very much!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, do you still have access to the Xanga site at this time? It could be that those files where not exported for some reason. Can you check and see if they happen to be draft posts or are they all published?

If Xanga gives you the option, try exporting by date ranges. Do one prior to the oldest post that was imported, and then one newer than the latest post that was imported.

Thanks to thesacredpath for your prompt advices. Yes, I still have access to the Xanga site but all I could do is login and download the same ZIP archive file only. They said :
“We’ve saved your Xanga blog archives for you! These archives can be imported into any site powered by WordPress. Click here to download them!”. Xanga gives NO option to exporting by date ranges. After download and unzip, can use notepad to see the contents of each of the xml file, can see some of my old blog was before the year of 2004 and some after 2008 until the year of 2013. I follow the instruction to import it one by one to wordpress, thus the result was only those from 23 Oct 2004 until 14 Nov 2008 can be displayed on my site. Any idea?

  • Can you please try importing those files using the WordPress importer instead? That sometimes works if the Xanga importer doesn’t.

Thanks to Kokkieh. As I indicated in my last post that my procedure was:

I followed the procedures including created a Xanga export file from http://xanga.com/wp-admin/index.php, downloaded the 5873308_1.zip which consist of 4 .xml files: 5873308_1.xml
    5873308_2.xml
    5873308_3.xml
    5873308_4.xml
Then go to WordPress.com blog’s Dashboard, go to Tools → Import. Choose the “Xanga” option, Click on the button “Choose File” and find the first .xml files, chosen and click on the button “Upload file and import”. Got email confirmed the import was successful. Then do this with each of the import files I received from Xanga.com.

Therefore, I actually did it at WordPress.com, so do you think I was using the “WordPress importer” already? If not, please point me where and how I can use “the “WordPress importer” ?

I don’t aware there is another importer – “the Xanga importer”.

    Thanks a million!

Thanks to Kokkieh. This is Larry again! I have fixed the problem now! you are right, what I did by following the procedure indicated from Xanga/Wordpress is not worked because I used the “Xanga importer”. Now I go back WordPress.com blog’s Dashboard, I found the so called WordPress importer, by using the WordPress importer instead, it works! and the processing time is much faster!! Thank you very much!!

  • Thanks for letting me know that worked!
