Import questions
-
Hi, there. I currently have a wordpress.org site and would like to transfer everything from that site to a free wordpress.com. I have two questions, first.
1. Will all of my comments from my wordpress.org site also be imported to my free wordpress site?
2. Once I import, will my wordpress.org site be gone, or will I have to remove it via my host?
Hope to hear back soon! Thank you!

Hi,
Will all of my comments from my wordpress.org site also be imported to my free wordpress site?
Yes!
Once I import, will my wordpress.org site be gone, or will I have to remove it via my host?
You will need to canceling your hosting and delete your old site. Importing into WordPress.com does not affect sites hosted with other webhosts as we have no connection to their servers.
Let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.

I have one more question. I just set it up to import my wordpress, org site into my new free wordpres.com site but it’s saying I need a $25 per month business plan to do so. I just want to do the import once, why $25 per month??
-
If you’re trying to import a site that needs to continue using plugins or a custom theme, or if you’re using the “import everything for me” service, you would need to upgrade to the Business plan.
At the minimum, you would need a paid plan of some kind if you plan on using your own custom domain name (instead of the free
*.wordpress.comone) – so review the different options here and you may be able to purchase a lower level plan and still work for your site’s needs.Let us know if you have any other questions.
-
I have plugins, like Jetpack, but no custom theme (twenty-ten), and no, I made a new “free” domain name with blank.wordpress.com. But it says only the business plan for $25 a MONTH and that’s why I wanted to move it to free wordpress because I can no longer pay $25 month to my wordpress.org site hosting company. :(
-
All of Jetpack’s features are already built into WordPress.com, even under the free plan, so you won’t need that plugin here.
Perhaps you can find alternatives for your other plugins among our built-in features?
Which plugins are you using currently?
-
Okay, here we go lol Obviously I will no longer need any plugins for the ads on my site, so those can go.

Thank you so much for taking the time to go through the list and tell me what I do not need. So, if I remove those plugins would I be able to move it without a monthly paid plan?
-
Right. You can move the site content over to WordPress.com for free. In order to move the domain, you will need an upgraded plan. You do not need the $25/month option though based on the plugins that
staff-blorbowent through already in their last reply.Looking at https://wordpress.com/plans/ You’ll see that both the $4 or $8 monthly plans will suit your current needs of moving the site and domain. The $8 monthly option has more advanced customization available and more than double the storage of the $4 option.

Thank you so much for all of your time and help to aid in me resolving this issue!! I feel better now. :)
