Import stalled

  I was trying to do an import into my wordpress site. It hung, and has been stuck for about 28 hours now. What can I do to stop this? I have a new cleaned up export file but the import won’t stop.

  You need only to wait for 24 hours before asking for Staff help.

  Hopefully you removed unmoderated and spam comments prior to creating the XML export file.

  Is the site you exported from still online?

  If it is then what is the URL please?

  Sometimes the importer gets stuck. If the file is large you may have to import Posts, Pages, etc. in separate files. Or if the file is very large Staff may have to do the import.

  Hi @mhsheiar, I’ve cleared that stuck import for you. If you’ve deleted all spam comments (approved or unapproved) then export again, it should work this time.

  @mhsheiar my tools say it’s finished, but I don’t see many posts in there.

  I have a new cleaned up export file

  I’ve found editing these manually can cause problems, so if you did that, can you try this instead? On the original installation:

  – Delete all spam comments

  – Delete all unmoderated comments that are probably spam

  – Empty the comment trash

  – Export again

  If you’ve already used those steps and it still doesn’t work, email the file and we’ll see if we can figure out what’s wrong.

  I had cleaned out the comments from our hosted server using mysql commands. I will send the cleaned up file.

  Thanks @mhsheiar, that one imported to my test site without a problem. If you’re still having trouble, please confirm which site you’re importing into.

  The site that I am trying to import to is mhsheiar.wordpress.com. The import is still trying as of this post.

  @mhsheiar ah, it looks like the import itself is not stuck, but its indicator is stuck. I’ll have a developer take a look.

  In the meantime, I was able to import from this end. You’ll want to check the media library to be sure all of the images from the old site made it over, then you’ll be set. Let us know if you need more help!
