Import stuck since yesterday
-
This is the second time I try to import my old wordpress blog (www.bananacraft.com) into wordpress.com. The first time it worked, but a lot of images were simply left pointing to the old blog and the old blog had a “/blog/” after the main url. Then I manually deleted all posts, changed the old blog to avoid the “/blog/”, exported all posts and asked wordpress.com to import them again, but now it seems to be stuck since yesterday.
I really need to move before my contract finishes on my old server (two or three days!) :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Ok, I’ve looked the xml file my old blog exported and there’s an error message at the end.
However, I still can’t understand why the images were not imported the first time I tried to import the old blog into wordpress.com -
Hi there,
In order to be able to move images over, the location where your old site is located needs to still be online and accessible when you import your content over to your WordPress.com site. Was it still online and accessible when you attempted the initial import?
Let me know, thanks!

Hi,
The website is still online. Here are the xml files I’ve exported from my website, but I can’t import on WordPress.com:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9eAOG1w01sNVG45UzlmNWktcG8Could you please verify why wordpress.com gets stuck when I try to import the posts using the xml files from the folder above?
Thanks for your help!

Hi there,
Sometimes a .org site will have media files that are referenced within posts but not actually attached to them, and these aren’t automatically imported. Sometimes even media with attachment metadata in the export file also fail for one reason or another. (For example, our file replication bits don’t like filenames that have dots in them other than the one before the file extension.)
What error were you receiving during the second attempted import? It may have something to do with you deleting post which may affect the import.
Let me know and I’ll see if we can assist you internally to get the images over.
Thanks!

The website I’m trying to import from is http://www.bananacraft.com
I’m not receiving any error messages from wordpress.com, but after I’ve uploaded the first xml file the system is still showing the spinning thing (I suppose three days now) and nothing happens.
Could you please verify why the import is stuck? You can check the xml files with the link I’ve shared before.
Thanks.

Hey there,
Could you please verify why the import is stuck? You can check the xml files with the link I’ve shared before.
I ran xmllint in terminal and received the following parser error:
EntityRef: expecting ';' url=http://www.bananacraft.com/blog/feito-a-mao/2008/07/15/casinhas-de-sonho/&amI fixed the bad character, but still no dice – couldn’t get rid of the error without deleting the entire string. So, that particular may not have imported over. However, I was able to export the XML files without further error and I think all the images as well. Please check the site and let me know if you see anything missing.
Thanks!

I’m sorry, but I was wrong about my blog. I’ve checked it again now, and a lot of images are still not there. Then I’ve looked at the media library and instead of around 2k files there are less than 700.
It seems wordpress.com was reading the images from my old server and after I changed the DNS servers to wordpress.com all those images stopped working. Also I think my browser (Chrome) was using the cached images because now I saw the images and they disappear after less than one second.
Here is one example of post with broken image ref:
https://bananacraft.com/2016/03/03/world-book-day-como-fazer-um-marcador-de-paginas/ -
I’ve looked inside the xml files and all the href fields are targeting bananacraft.com/blog/ instead of simply bananacraft.com
Could this be reason for the crazy behaviour?

We’ll take a look and see if we can get the remaining images over. I’ll keep you updated on what we find.
Thanks!

Hi there!
There are fifteen posts where we weren’t able to pick up the images; you’ll will need to fix these manually, but the other 3000+ posts have been backfilled!
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
