Import takes too long

  I’m trying to import entries from my Livejournal, perelynn.livejournal.com. It’s been more than 24 hours, but import is still ongoing. Currently I’m getting a message ‘Imported post batch 2074 of approximately 1’. Once in a while it would give me a message ‘failed to connect to Livejournal’, but when I press ‘continue the current import’ it would connect and continue to count batches.

  Is this normal? Do I just wait more, or do I abort this import and start a new one?

  Hello!

  I tried again.

  At first, the import screen just went blank. I was still within the WordPress interface, but nothing on the screen, and no indication on any process going.

  I tried to restart the report, and now it’s doing the same thing as before – showing me the message “Imported post batch 13 of approximately 1”.

  Should I have left it alone when it was a blank screen?

  Yes, I have reset the importer again.

  Please try again and let it run for a full 24 hours (it’s safe to close your browser while it runs).

  Ok. I restarted it and will wait for 24 hours. I’ll let you know tomorrow how it went. Thank you for your help!

  Hello. I waited for 24 hours, but nothing changed. The window is still blank, and the entries are still not imported.

  Yes I do. The posts you see are old, the last one dated by 2017. I’m trying to import the new posts from 2018, 2019, 2020.

  Hi there,

  I’m afraid the issue here is with the LiveJournal importer itself – imports from LJ have been broken for several years now, ever since LJ made changes to their API that the importer uses to connect to sites over there. We’d tried at the time to work with LJ support to get this fixed, but all we ever got from them were canned responses, so I’m afraid at this point there’s not much we can do.

  There’s a workaround that another user created which you can try. See this reply:

  If that doesn’t work either, then I’m afraid there’s no other way to move your posts to WordPress.com from LiveJournal…that I know of, at least.
