Import Taking Forever
-
Hi — I am trying to import data from a different WordPress site and it’s taking a very long time to upload. Can a WordPress customer service agent stop the upload so I can start again?
Site: https://invasionnetwork.wordpress.com.
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: Yes -

The site I am exporting from is: theinvasionnetwork.wordpress.com/
The site I am importing to is: invasionnetwork.wordpress.com.

Hello there,
Many thanks for that extra information.
I’ve reset that for you. May I ask you to reattempt that import please.
Many thanks.

Hi aleone89,
Thanks for your assistance. I tried importing my WordPress .zip file again and its causing the same issue. Any suggestions?

Hi there!
I can see that the import was indeed stuck again. I’ve reset the importer state. Could you try the following steps please?
* Download another export file from the source site.
* Clear your browser cache before logging in to the account where the destination site is. Here’s how to clear your browser cache: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
* Try the import again. If it’s stuck again, let us know and we’ll investigate this further for you.

Hmm I’m not sure I understand. I’ve taken a look at your two sites, and it seems to me that in the time since you posted this all imports have successfully wrapped up.
If I visit theinvasionnetwork.wordpress.com I can confirm that I see that content has now been added to your other site (invasionnetwork.wordpress.com) as well.
Can you point out one or two things on theinvasionnetwork.wordpress.com that are missing and do NOT appear to have been imported to invasionnetwork.wordpress.com? We’re happy to take a closer look but I have not seen any missing content when comparing the two sites, thanks!

Hi jerrysarcastic — I am trying to export the design and content of the theinvasionnetwork.wordpress.com into the invasionnetwork.wordpress website. The content is the same yes, but not the design.

Hello there,
Ok, may we ask you to upload the export XML into the media library of invasionnetwork.wordpress.com please.
Once done, we can look to run the import ourselves and see what’s happening.
Many thanks.

Hi again,
I also wanted to add that an export file does not contain your theme or design details, only your pages, blog posts, uploaded media, comments, and other content.
If you want your new site to have the same design as the old site, you must activate and configure the same theme and set that up manually on the new site. More info: https://wordpress.com/support/export/#what-an-xml-export-can-and-cannot-do
The good news is that the theme is still available and has not been retired, so you can activate it here: https://wordpress.com/theme/baskerville-2/invasionnetwork.wordpress.com
That should get you most of the way there, but you will need to set a new header image as well as double check (or directly compare) theme settings between the two sites.
Hope this helps!
