  • Hi there! Thanks for reaching out, and We’re happy to help look into this.

I just want to make sure we fully understand what you’re seeing before we dig deeper.

When you mention being “prompted by the tool to disable the custom domain,” could you clarify a bit more for us?

    • Where exactly is this prompt appearing? For example, is it in the Domains section of your dashboard, during a setup flow, or in a specific tool or page?
    • What is the exact message or wording you’re seeing?
    • Was there a specific custom domain previously connected to leegveitch-vkdoy.wordpress.com, and if so, do you recall its name?

If you’re able to share a screenshot of the prompt or the page where this is happening, that would be very helpful too.

Once we have a bit more detail, we can check what’s going on and guide you on the next best steps. Thanks so much for your patience!

  • Let’s clarify what you are trying to do so I can point you in the right direction.

Can you confirm which tool or feature is asking you to disable the custom domain?
For example, is this coming from a Tumblr import tool, a domain transfer screen, or another section of your WordPress.com dashboard?

Also, is the domain currently connected to a Tumblr site, or was it previously connected and already removed there?

If possible, please share a screenshot and the URL of the exact message or screen where you are being prompted to disable the domain.
That will help me see why the system still thinks the domain is active and what needs to be updated.

its here, the wordpress import tool. the domain was previously connected has already been removed.

  • Hi @leegveitch

Thanks for the details and screenshot!

What you’re seeing is coming from Tumblr rather than your WordPress.com site. In the Tumblr Importer list, your Tumblr blog “Mr. Veitch” is still being reported by Tumblr as having the custom domain mrveitch.com attached to it, so the importer blocks it and shows the “Custom Domain” warning.

Even if mrveitch.com is currently mapped to a different WordPress.com site, the importer will continue to flag it until the domain is removed inside Tumblr’s blog settings.

    To resolve this:

    1. You would need to Log in to Tumblr and go to Settings
    2. And then select the Mr. Veitch blog
    3. Remove mrveitch.com under the Custom Domain / Domain section (disable custom domain if there’s a toggle)
    4. Save the change
    5. Back in WordPress.com → Tumblr Importer, click Disconnect from Tumblr, then reconnect your account (this refreshes the blog data)

Once Tumblr no longer reports the custom domain, the importer should switch from “Custom Domain” to an “Import this blog” button.

In the meantime, your other blog (“Untitled”, hosted on a tumblr.com URL) is eligible to import right away, and you can proceed with that one now if needed.

If you’ve removed the domain in Tumblr and it still shows as a custom domain after reconnecting, let us know, that usually indicates Tumblr still has the domain stored on their side, and we can advise on the next best workaround.

    Thank you!

    Best,
    Melven
