Import WordPress.org -> WordPress.com: pictures, links

  I recently moved my blog from a self-hosted wordpress.ORG installation to wordpress.COM. It looked like everything worked properly but when I examined things in more detail, I found the following two problems that I would like to resolve:

  1) The pictures on my self-hosted blog did not get copied to my wordpress.com blog; instead, the posts on wordpress.com simply link to the picture on my personal server. I want to take my personal server offline, so I need the pictures to be copied to my wordpress.com blog. In addition, I need my posts to properly link to the location of the images on wordpress.com.

  2) Many of the posts on my blog link to previous blog posts I made. In my wordpress.com installation, I need these links to point to posts on wordpress.com. Right now, they link to the blog on my personal server. So, I need the importer to rewrite the links so they point to my wordpress.com blog rather than my old, self-hosted blog.

  I found an importer that seems to take care of this but it appears to only work for importing into wordpress.ORG blogs: http://heftagaub.wordpress.com/2007/05/26/improved-wordpress-to-wordpress-importer/
  I’m happy to do another export of my self-hosted blog and re-import it into wordpress.com if it will solve the problems I mentioned above. Is there some way these problems can be resolved?
