Import XML file – without overwriting!

    Hello.

So we are about to create a new layout, interface and everything on our website. Situation: Use a Theme Switch-plugin. So far so good.

Our concern is; We have bought a theme, but when uploading the ZIP file the design and layout is no where near the layout of the demo content. Ofcouse, because our settings is totally different – but it needs to much work done before it looks ANYTHING like it.

So we are thinking about importing the XML file of the demo content, and from there input our own content, pictires etc.

Problem is; How do we import the demo xml file BEHIND the scenes, so it wont affect the original page the visitors are seeing?

I used Theme Switcha to work on the new layout behind the scenes, but they can’t tell me if we will overwrite the original XML-file if we import the new one while the switcha-plugin is activated.

Does anybody have ANY experience it that area? Much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

This forum is for sites hosted on WordPress.com, and you have a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software. Plugins like you’re describing cannot be used on WordPress.com, so we simply don’t have the information here to help you with this.

Please ask the users in the self-hosted forums instead, though the best option would be to contact the developer of the plugin you want to use directly.

Regarding importing I can tell you that if you import a XML file to any WordPress site, be it WordPress.com or self-hosted, the imported content is inserted inbetween your existing content, based on the publication date. It won’t overwrite your existing content, but it also won’t automatically set up your site to look like the demo version of the new theme (which I assume is why you’re using a plugin to switch themes instead of just activating the new theme from your site’s Appearance menu).
