Import XML not working

I’m trying to import an XML file from my old WordPress.org site into .com and it’s just not working.
It started fine the first time but crashed mid-import, so I tried again but now the import screen won’t even display properly, showing nothing but ‘I want to import content from:’ with the rest of the screen blank grey.
I’ve tried three different browsers and the result is the same.
What am I supposed to do now?

Thanks for reaching out! I think what’s happened here is that the site was upgraded to the business plan and that infrastructure works a little differently.
You should be able to import that XML after adding this plugin. https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-all-import/

Thanks for your help! Ah that would explain a lot. I’ve installed the plugin but it seems it won’t let me import media without paying for the Pro version.
Is there any other way to move my site over from .org? I’d rather not have to recreate 140+ posts, all my categories, tags etc by hand, if at all possible. -
If I were to upload the XML to the live site (because it’s currently on the free plan), then turn off/delete the staging site, then re-enable the staging site, would it copy everything into the staging site effectively allowing me to bypass the problem I’m having?

It isn’t caused by a staging site. Sites that are plugin-enabled work a little differently. But you shouldn’t have to pay for the paid version of that plugin. Let’s see about alternatives:
May I know if the WordPress.org site you’re trying to import is live? Or is it an xml file you downloaded, and the site is no longer live?
If the site is live, you can try this method, which will import the entire site:
If you have a website built with WordPress on another hosting provider, generally referred to as a self-hosted WordPress.org site, and want to move it to WordPress.com, use our Import Everything option. The Import Everything option will copy your existing self-hosted WordPress site to your new WordPress.com site, including your content, media, plugins, and the theme. Prerequisites A WIf the WordPress.org site is not live at the moment, can you try following the steps once more and let us know if it’s still not working?

Yes, the site I’m importing from is still live and I also have an XML for it too, so either method should work.
As I explained in my initial post, the Import screen no longer displays properly after it crashed the first time. The top section reads ‘I want to import content from:’ but the rest of the screen is blank grey with no options for different sites. I’ve tried three different browsers and it doesn’t display correctly in any of them.
I’ll try live chat again but there was nobody available when I tried the first time. -
Bit of an update, I seem to have made some progress. I’ve uninstalled all of the three browsers I tried and purged all of their related files including the temp folder, just in case there was a corrupt file anywhere. I’ve reinstalled one (Chrome) and the Import Content screen is displaying again. I’m doing the import from URL method, and it’s currently mid-import so fingers crossed it works.
