Imported data – problem with themes

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi! Sorry for my bad english…
    I have quite some difficulties with setting a Theme for my blog, since I imported the notes from ex-Tumblr (more than 1000 blog posts), and hope I will make that blog much more powerfull from now!

    But it looks that the Themes do not to recognize the imported fotos as ‘featured picture’.
    Consecuence: all the designs only show texts in the general view of the posts, and do not build the ‘mosaic’ of images on first page… EXCEPT the theme called ‘CUBIC’.
    Could you explain why Cubic works for me? and not the other ones? Or is there a tip so that I can make other themes work with the imported content?
    Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Hi @bnbtccs, most themes require an explicit featured image. But Cubic so heavily relies on images, it will try to detect a featured image if you do not have one set. Basically it will just use the first image available.

    I’ll see if I can find any workarounds for you so you’ll have options open to other themes.

    @supernovia
    I don’t have time to test but maybe Boardwalk will do the same as Cubic does.

  • @timethief indeed, Boardwalk does. It’s very similar. I want to say a handful of the super image-heavy themes do.

    But I’m hoping we can just find a way to feature the first large-enough image in each post. It’ll take a few days to know for sure (especially re: our holiday weekend) but I’m going to be hoping for the best. :)

    thanks a lot for your help, I’ll be patient :)

  • You bet, @bnbtccs. One of our developers is taking a look and noticed your images hadn’t all imported to our servers, so they’re working on fixing that. Then we’ll see about setting featured images to the first image in each post. I’ll update you when we are all set.

  • H @bnbtccs, we’ve made some progress and have a script running to help finish things up. This will set featured images for 937 posts (of 1093 total), so not every post will have a featured image now, but the lion’s share of them should.

    Our developer wanted to point out that some themes (this one included) will now show the featured image twice — once in the header and once in the content, if it is also included there, like this. Typically folks will either set a featured image and not include it in their post, or include it later in their post, or use CSS to hide a duplicate if it looks off. Sometimes people will selectively un-set featured images for certain posts, too. Or you could pick a theme that handles the featured images differently — and now you’ve got that option. :) I hope that helps!
