imported from wordpress.org and lost most media in posts
-
I just moved from self-hosted on wp.org to wp.com. All of the posts made it over, but any Soundcloud, YouTube or other embeds that used iframes are now missing.
I figured out iframes are not allowed in wp.com… but is there a way to tweak the xml file before importing to fix this issue? Or some other workaround?
Most archive posts are now worthless, so I’d like to find a way to restore the full content.
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I took a look and everything is working properly.
Could you please send the links of some of the posts where you encounter this issue?
Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Safari or Google Chrome?
Thank you!

For example, this post:

If you look at the original code, the image and soundcloud embed are missing. For some reason, the youtube embeds still work…

<img class=”aligncenter size-full wp-image-4801″ alt=”holy-ghost-dynamics” src=”http://www.oldwaver.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/holy-ghost-dynamics.jpg” width=”350″ height=”350″ />NYC’s Holy Ghost, heir apparent to the DFA crown, will release sophomore album Dynamics next month. It’s already been a big year for the synthpop acolytes, opening for their muse, New Order, on a string of US dates.
Today, Rolling Stone debuted the opening track from Dynamics, the slickly soulful “Okay”. It starts off a bit like OMD and busts out the Peter Hook bass for the big finale:

Proof that sometimes a song’s working title ends up on the album, “Dumb Disco Ideas” — another preview of Dynamics — is a floor filler in the cowbell wielding mold of James Murphy:

If you’re liking where this is headed, check out non-album track “Teenagers In Heat” with its ingenious homemade lyric video… and download it free, too:

Can’t wait for this one. Catch Holy Ghost on tour and pick up Dynamics September 10 on DFA.
Thanks!

I’ve just fixed the Soundcloud embed. I have to dig a little deeper to find out why it isn’t automatically embedded. I’ll get back on that.
The image is linked to http://www.oldwaver.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/holy-ghost-dynamics.jpg which doesn’t exist anymore. I assume the domain was already pointed to WordPress.com when the import was happening, therefore it wasn’t able to pull the image. In this case you can manually upload the image again: http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/kBSdNy7oI4g/maxresdefault.jpg
Do you have more non-working images on your blog? and is your previous self-hosted WordPress.org site still available?

Thanks for checking into the soundcloud issue.
I’m sure there are other non-working images, but I haven’t cataloged them all. The previous self-hosted site is gone… I didn’t renew hosting and it has expired, so all I have is the xml file. Seems some of the photos were grabbed in the importing process but not others.

Some embed code like JavaScript, Flash, iframe, form, and input tags are removed for security reasons. I’ve just informed our developers that during imports iframes from services like Soundcloud should automatically convert into shortcodes we support at WordPress.com. Although it’s on the shelf it could take a while before it’ll be supported.
For now I suggest re-adding the Soundcloud embeds using our Shortcode: http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/soundcloud-audio-player/ or through the sharing button at Soundcloud: http://goo.gl/JQc3sT
If you check the original (.xml) import file and search for w.soundcloud.com you’ll find about 40 iframe codes, you can then find the original post and re-add the soundcloud embed.
We will look into being better able to import SoundCloud players some time in the future and apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime.

that’s what I was afraid of. thanks for checking into it and raising the issue with the developers.
