well, for a couple of years my blog was placed internally on my website. i had used wordpress prior to that as an external blog location, if that makes sense.

i closed down my old business a year ago, and no longer use the website. i was able to export all of the blog posts back into wordpress, where i have been blogging for the last year.

all of the copy is intact, but none of the photos are showing up. i’m just curious if there was a problem with the export/import or if there is some other issue with the photos. thanks.

Where were you exporting from please? Is this a case of a WordPress.org import or not? When you import there is a prompt asking is you want to include attachments. The media files including image files are attachments.

i believe it was a wordpress.org import, and if i’m not mistaken the images originally were showing up. it just seems like something changed more recently.

Will you please provide the original URL of the site your exported the content out of?

thanks for your help. now that i’m thinking about a bit more, i’m wondering if the posts were improperly imported. i will try to import them again and see if it asks me about the attachments. it is certainly possibly that i neglected to do so.

    Hi there!

WordPress export files do not include all image files from your site. They include references to those files and when you import that file, WordPress sees those references and goes to find the files where they were.

This means your export file is smaller and also takes less of your own bandwidth to import and export.

If your old site was inaccessible (ie: you couldn’t visit it via your browser) when you imported your posts, then the images could not be imported. Does this sound like what happened?

  • Unknown's avatar

absolutely. i imported the file again, and still not images. i’m assuming i’ll need my old website guy to see about putting together another file. thanks so much the help timethief and shawna.
