Imported topic lost images

  Hello,

  I have migrate from another blog to wordpress. Everything worked fine.. but now I see all images has been lost !!!! Could somebody fix it?

  Hi there,

  What is the URL of the site you imported “from” is it still online? Is it a WordPress blog, or a blog built on another platform.

  no the origin page (blog.cz) has been shutted down.

  When we import from another site, we pull images from that site.

  If the site is offline, we cannot, so the images will need to be re-uploaded.

  so those images were never really imported to wordpress server?

  The XML “export” file contains references to image files (not the image files themselves), so it’s important that the export site is accessible at the same address when using this XML file for importing. If the blog.cz site is not available, uploads and images cannot be brought over in the import process.

  Do you still have the images on your computer perhaps? They may need to be transferred manually to the new site. Another option is to bring the blog.cz site back online again, and then re-try the import

  As long as the original blog.cz site is online (or can be put online again) you will be able to import your images by running the import a second time.

  I am not sure, If we understand each other. The images were online on blog.cz, during first import. The images were visible couple weeks, but after the shutdown the server, no images are visible anymore.

  the question is: are the images during import physicaly also imported to WordPress? Or only the links?

  I can see some links like:
  

  but even them are not shown. And other links are just missing the wp.com part. I do not have anymore the origin import.xml file to check the content.

  So, that shows that the original images weren’t actually imported and were just being loaded from the old site.

  Can you restore the old site with the hosting provider? Sometimes they keep account backups for a bit.

  No. The server was shutdown unfortunatelly :/

  It seems that blog.cz was a service using a custom version of WordPress that they modified for their own needs. Did they give you info on how to migrate away from their service?

  My guess here is that the way they set up their custom service prevented images from being imported (here) correctly. They were instead “hot-linked” to the media files on their servers, which of course disappeared when they spun down their service.

  With this in mind I recommend reaching out to their support contact here, and seeing if they are able to assist you in locating your missing media: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
