Importing a bluehost.com backup file
-
Good morning.
I am cancelling my domain name and hosting with bluehost.com to migrate all of that content to my WordPress.com blog (sdloveshiphop.wordpress.com). Bluehost has provided me with a backup file, but I have no idea how to take that content, and import it into WordPress – I have exported and imported many XML files. Please help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @thewhitsells, I’m not sure what format the backup file is in. Generally to import here, you’ll want an XML format. Are you able to find that?
If not, your very best bet is to get it *before* you cancel, and import here so that the images are in place before the old site goes offline.
We have a how to here:

There are other ways to rescue content from a .tar.gz file that has just a sql dump and a bunch of files, but they’re quite tedious, so the import is the way to go. If you’ve already cancelled the site with them, you might even just ask if they can leave it up for an extra day or two.

That’s what I was afraid of. Okay. I’ll renew my domain and hosting for a month and download the XML file. Thanks so much for the time and energy!
