importing a file from my computer

can I just import a file from my computer’s documents to use as a Word Press post?

Hi there,
WordPress.com uses a drag-and-drop editor that uses text and image blocks to create custom page layouts. Because of this it s not usually compatible with documents created in a text editing application like Word or similar.
You can try opening the text doc on your computer and “pasting” it into a blank page in WordPress.com, which will often bring over the contents of the doc, but not always the formatting. You may need to style the content within the WordPress.com editor once it is pasted.
We do not however have a tool for converting an outside document straight from the file, to it would need to be copy/paste. More info here: https://wordpress.com/support/microsoft-word/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Would it work if I converted it to a PDF?
It would be less likely to work from a PDF because it’s a format that’s less likely to be converted to text for a post.
If you have a Word document or a document created in another word processor, the Microsoft Word importer my colleague linked to above will be your best bet.
If you don’t have a Word document – can you give us more information into what your document is? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.
Thanks!

I wanted to, belatedly, thank you for your help with this. The “cut and paste” solution actually worked well for me (once I realized I needed to highlight or select what I needed to cut and paste (I’m not the most “computer-literate person in existance). Thankyou again very much!
