importing a new site
-
Hi. I am about to import a site from wix to wordpress. It’s a simple academic static site like all of my other ones. I will start out as a $48/ year. Before I do so, I wanted to find out how much of the original layout will I be able to preserve. What happens to the original site?
Correct account: Yes
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there, the original site won’t go anywhere unless you change the domain settings — it should still exist on Wix until you remove it.
In my experience, the import tools can get content (images and text) but the layout can vary.
I’d recommend this:
– Use the import tool: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-wix/
– If the pages don’t look good after importing, it may be easiest to use Patterns to fix them. You would insert a pattern near the top of the page. You can use something similar to what you had before, or try something new! Then swap out the images and text with the content you imported. You can add more patterns as needed.
We have more tips on patterns here:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/block-pattern/– Once you have everything set up the way you like it, you can connect the domain:
