importing a sql.gz file so I can export a .xml file

Hi there, I had a WordPress site for several years and ended up needing to move over to square space. I have a sql.gz backup file and would like to bring my blog posts over to my new site, but apparently can’t do that directly. Is there a way I can import that into WordPress and export it again or at least get a csv file with the urls and text so I can recreate the posts? I’m not sure how that works. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Thank you!

never mind! I was able to find an old .xml backup. I don’t see anywhere I can delete my post so thought I’d update.

  • Hi @villamo545! Glad you’ve got it. Yeah, with a SQL backup, your best bet will be to install a copy of WordPress, then import into that. Then export.

You’ll also want to mind that your images get imported, though.

    Good luck!
