Importing a wordpress site.

I had a web designer build me a wordpress site but after getting 90% done they bailed on the project and left me with what was done so far. They sent me a zip file for the site. But when i tried to use the wordpress site import tool It would say incorrect file format, as the zip is just a bunch of php files and the importer requires an xml file. I’m not sure what to do but could really use some help navigating this.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hey there,

Many thanks for reaching out and happy to help with this.

It sounds like what you’ve been given is the theme and plugin files, which can be uploaded into WordPress.com. The process can be quite cumbersome, but it’s totally doable.

Can you tell me if the site they’ve built is still active, or accessible? There may be an easier way to import the site if it is.

Also to note, in order to upload theme and plugin files on WordPress.com – the site would need to be on the business plan.

If the site created is not accessible, we’ll do our best to get you up and running with what you’ve been given. :)

Looking forward to hearing from you.
