Importing blog from Blogger

    I bet I am not the only one at the moment trying to import a Blogger blog into WordPress.

    I do have an XML file containing all my posts and comments, however the import tool seems to insist on contacting Blogger about this.
    And I don’t feel like contacting Blogger. That might damage the status of my current blog on Blogger. I don’t see why the XML-file is not enough.
    Besides that: I am not so sure I want to MOVE my blog, I want to create a COPY first and see if that is OK.
    The import tool seems to think differently: It starts crunching on my XML-data for a few minutes and then asks me to start over again.

    What can I do?

    I don’t know what you mean. What I do know is that duplicate content blogs are problematic and can result in Google penalties as well they should. http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66359

    Please post the error message you are receiving so we can determine exactly what’s going on.

    If I do nothing I will soon not be able to blog AT ALL.
    That is a lot more penalty than losing a little SEO-juice.
    Besides that, I will not allow search engines to see the blog until I am happy with it.

    The size of my .XML-file is 1.5 MB
    I see the following:

    Have a Blogger export file?
    Your file has been successfully uploaded. We will begin processing your import right away.

    Choose a file from your computer: (Maximum size: 15MB)

    Restart
    We have saved some information about your Blogger account in your WordPress database. Clearing this information will allow you to start over. Restarting will not affect any posts you have already imported. If you attempt to re-import a blog, duplicate posts and comments will be skipped.

    [Reset Importer]
    [Clear all information]

    Have a Blogger export file?
    Your file has been successfully uploaded. We will begin processing your import right away.

    Choose a file from your computer: (Maximum size: 15MB)

    (1) Locate the information for how to export your content out of your blogspot blog from Blogger help center.
    (2) Follow the instructions for exporting your contents our of the blogspot blog into a XML desktop file.
    (3) Import that file form your desktop into your wordpress.com blog.

    I get the same info after importing the Blogger xml file:
    “Your file has been successfully uploaded. We will begin processing your import right away.”

    So what’s next? Nothing is imported or is WordPress actually processing the import? For how long then, until I can see the imported posts?

    I clicked your username expecting to find a wordpress.com blog but found it was linked to a blog that has been deleted. I’m now assuming you are referring to another wordpress.com blog.
    (1) Will you confirm is that’s true or not please?
    (2) Also please provide us with an update. Are you able to see the posts in your dashboard yet?
    (3) Here’s a tip for those who have imported files from other blogging platforms. Go to > Dashboard > Settings > Writing
    locate and checkmark
    Formatting
    ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
    Then click “Save Changes

    I always read it’s best to import very early morning United States a.m. time. Traffic is less during then.
