Importing blog from Typo to WordPress.com
-
Hello,
I am writing on behalf of Beezwax Datatools. We just upgraded our
membership and are looking to migrate our old blog (Typo)
http://buzz.beezwax.net to http://beezwaxbuzz.wordpress.com.We haven’t found an easy way to import the blog posts yet. We tried a
script to migrate Typo to WP and succeeded in exporting a .wxr file,
but it’s 150 MB in size. Uploading a small sample for import yielded
this message and we’ve been stuck there for weeks:> Processing…
> We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed. We would like to know if the Guided Transfer will allow us to import
the 150 MB .wxr file, or if there are other ways to solve our
problems. Thanks in advance!Regards,
MP

The Guided Transfer is for those moving content off WordPress.com hosted blogs and onto WordPress.org software installs. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up re: the import. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

I’m not familiar with Typo, so I’m not sure if the export file you have will be directly compatible with our importer tools or not.
I’ve reset your import. You can try splitting your import using a WXR splitter tool such as the following:
http://suhastech.com/wordpress-wxr-xmlfile-splitter-for-mac-os-x/If that doesn’t work, I can take a further look at the file and see if we can import it for you. Please keep me posted.

Thank you for resetting the import for me. The WXR file I tried
importing last time is a 181 KB sample of the original. I’m hesitant
to try uploading the same file again because I’m certain file size is
not an issue. Perhaps there’s some sort of validator I could run it
through? Anyway, I’ll try a splitter tool like the one you suggested.
Let me know if you’d like to take a look at the either the sample or
the 150 MB original (how should I send those to you?). Thanks again! -
It would be great if you could try splitting the file and then attempting the import again (we can always reset it again if necessary).
If that still fails, then the best thing to do would be to upload your export file to a file sharing service like Dropbox so I can download it. If you don’t wish to share it publicly, you can contact me with the link via email with my name in the subject line and a link to this forums thread in the body of the email, as well as the download link.
Thanks!
