Importing Content Failed
-
I’m trying to import all the content from a custom WordPress install to a WordPress.com account. I left the importer running overnight, but it’s still running. Is there a way to cancel / restart it? Is there something I should do differently when exporting the original site content?

Has 24 hours passed since you tried to import?
Is the site you created the XML export file from still online? If so post the URL here.
Did you remove all unapproved comments, spam and advertising before you made the XML export file?Sometimes the importer gets stuck. If the file is large you may have to import Posts, Pages, etc. in separate files. Or if the file is very large Staff may have to do the import.

It’s been over 24 hours since I started the import, but I did not remove all the comments and spam before I exported it. If there’s a way to cancel the current import I can try that next.
The original site URL is http://ntsang.net, and it’s still online. The hosting for that site will expire in 9 days so I need to get the content out of there before then.
Thanks for your help!

Hi there,
If your export is a .zip file, try extracting it so you can upload the .xml file inside it. You can read more here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/coming-from-self-hosted/#migrate
Let me know if this works.

Hi midnightbreakfastcafe,
I’ve reset the importer, can you try importing your .xml file again? The maximum supported file size is 15MB so just double that before you run the import.
Come back to me if you run any problems.
Thanks!

This was probably the issue — my file size was 18mb, but I was able to reduce it to 4mb.
However, it looks like the importer is still trying to import the old file and won’t let me import a new one.

Hi midnightbreakfastcafe,
it looks like the importer is still trying to import the old file
The import has definitely been cancelled so please clear your browser cache using these steps:
If that doesn’t help, you may want to try using the WordPress importer in your WP Admin dashboard instead:
https://missmomus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=wordpress
Let me know how you get on.

The import worked! I was able to do it from the admin dashboard. Thanks for all your help!

I’m having the same problem. My import file is 19.5mb. My posts and pages have imported but images won’t import.
I’ve changed my DNS but my old site is up on a temporary address.
Any ideas how to fix it.?
