Importing content from a WordPress.org site doesn't import media?

I did “Export All Content” on a WordPress.org installation using the standard Import/Export tool, then did Import on my WordPress.com blog, and it imported all the posts/tags/categories but didn’t bring the Media across.
I’ve done imports before and they’ve usually worked fine and imported Media too, as long as I did “All Content” (media won’t import if you just export partial content). Just wondering what would stop my media from importing this time?

Hi Callan,
Your export file should import all media as well provided the media was uploaded to your self-hosted site (i.e. images weren’t linked from elsewhere).
I uploaded the xml file you used to a test blog, and I didn’t have any media files transferred over either. Can you make sure that your media files were uploaded to your Media Library and not hosted elsewhere?

I figured it out. User error (isn’t it always?). I don’t know why, but I had updated the Nameservers for the domain BEFORE the import had finished (even though I know I shouldn’t have), so when the import tried to grab the images off my old host, the domain was already referencing the WordPress.com site, which didn’t have my images.
I’ve changed the nameservers back, and will try a fresh import. Is there an easy way to wipe all my content so I can do a fresh import again (this time hopefully with images!) without having -2 on the end of URLs etc? I believe if I manually deleted the pages/posts/etc the URLs are still reserved?

I’m happy to manually wipe your site. The importer should recognize duplicate content and refrain from bringing across dupes. However, if you would like me to wipe your WordPress.com site, just confirm the URL (example.wordpress.com), and I’ll get it done!
