importing form blogger
-
I just followed the directions to IMPORT a blog from Blogger to my already established WordPress blog. How will I know when the process is complete? thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Normally there is a queue for the importer so importing is not an instant process. We usually get an email about 24 hours after we use the importer. However, sometimes the importer gets stuck and when that happens we type modlook into the sidebar tags of a forum thread like this one and request Staff to reset the importer for us.

I have not seen anything come through yet, but when I do…I wonder where the material will end up..
How will they know where to put the various posts and pages from blogger if the categories and page titles are not exactly the same on my Word Press blog ?
Do you have any experience with this? (Does my question even make sense?)
thanks -
HI again,
I tagged this thread for Staff assistance and they will answer your questions. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it. Also be patient while waiting as there is a backlog.
-
thanks. I think I am subscribed…..I don’t see a “sidebar to this thread.” I checked the box below this message that says “Notify me of followup posts via e-mail.
-
Good then that’s all you need to do. This thread is tagged for Staff and they have a backlog. What’s required is your patience as Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in chronological order based on datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.
How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.
Please don’t bump your thread here by posting into it again because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response.

Hi there,
I just reset your site’s Blogger importer so you can try importing from your Blogger blog again. However, I also checked the file you imported, and it looks like it is formatted incorrectly. That can happen if you open the export file from Blogger in a program like Word, for example, and then resave the file.
Can you try exporting your blog from Blogger again (to get a new export file) and then try that import again here? We also have a guide for Importing from Blogger? if you’d like to learn more about the process.

“and then try that import again here?”
for example- what do you mean by HERE?
And—Word is all I have…..thanks

To redo this import, please start by generating a new export file from Blogger. When you’re logged in to Blogger, go to Settings → Other and click “export blog.” That will generate an XML file with the contents of your Blogger blog.
Then, without opening that file in Word, please import the file into your WordPress.com site. You can do that in the same place as before, under Tools > Import > Blogger in your site’s dashboard:
https://enduringgloucesterdotcom1.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=blogger
If you have any other questions about that, please let me know.

It can take up to 24 hours for the importer to finish working. If it’s still going after 24 hours, or if you notice that some of your content is missing at that point, please let me know!

Hi Rachel.
It’s been more than 24 hrs. Still nothing has appeared on the blog…
Should I be doing something?
thanks -
Hi there, I took a look at the new file you imported, and it still isn’t a valid XML file. Can you describe the exact steps you took to export that file from Blogger and then import it on your WordPress.com site? I’m trying to track down why the file isn’t formatted correctly.

i did exactly as you instructed.
this:
“To redo this import, please start by generating a new export file from Blogger. When you’re logged in to Blogger, go to Settings → Other and click “export blog.” That will generate an XML file with the contents of your Blogger blog. Then, without opening that file in Word, please import the file into your WordPress.com site. it says
“Your file has been successfully uploaded. We will begin processing your import right away.”is that what we’re looking for?
what is “right away? should I wait ANOTHER 24 hrs ? -
Hi there,
Thanks for confirming that. I’m checking your import file now to compare it to your blog’s content, to see what has been imported successfully. So far, it looks like everything is coming through — I see quite a few of the posts appearing on your blog here: http://enduringgloucester.com/
Can you take a look and see if all the content from your Blogger blog is showing up here now? If anything is missing, please let me know as much detail about the missing content as you can (for example, post titles) as that will help me investigate this for you.
