    Hello

My name is David and I’m trying to import a WordPress backup to my new WordPress however the system tells me the .zip is too large. Please advise

    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Context:

This is a backup of our former blog, the domain for which was hosted on GoDaddy. The blog was managed and accessed through GoDaddy’s CPanel. Before terminating our GoDaddy accounts, I created a WordPress backup of the blog, resulting in the above-mentioned “.zip file”.

We are now using Wix.com to host our domain and manage the site’s content. We’re almost ready to go live, but we want to ensure we retain some legacy blog content. This site and blog is for a charity, and we use the blog to share snippets and excerpts of our work featured in local and national news media.

In the .zip file, I can see the images, audio, and video files under a content folder, but I can’t locate the actual blog posts. I’m hoping to use a temporary and free WordPress site to import the backup, then selectively migrate relevant posts to our new Wix.com blog.

The back up is actually a .tar.gz file and is below 500mb

  • Hi David,

Can you share some details about the file? How was the backup file created and how large is the file? Once we know more, we can provide better guidance. We also have a guide for resolving import errors that may be helpful – https://wordpress.com/support/import/#resolve-import-errors
