importing from another wordpress site

  I have downloaded the files from another wordpress site but when I go to import and try to upload the files I get an error that they are the wrong file type. Please help.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Are the files XML export files? If not you will not be able to import them. See here please Importing Content from Another WordPress Blog https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

  I guess where I am confused is I am following the steps on the directions but it isn’t being exported as the correct file type.

  Where did the export file come from?
  What is the exact URL of the site the export came from?
