Importing from another WP blog

    I just created a blog here at wordpress.com in the hopes of unearthing and continuing an older blog I used to maintain. The previous blog was hosted on a now defunct website, using WordPress 2.1. Before the website went away, I exported the blog into an XML file, which is what I am attempting to import into my new blog here. I keep getting an error that it’s not a valid WXR file when I try to upload it through the import tool though.

    I’ve looked at backup XML file itself and it appears to be fine. The code it all readable, my original categories are at the beginning and my entries with all their metadata are below. If I remember correctly I had a couple plug-ins on my old install of WordPress, but would that really effect my ability to import the entries here?

    Any help or thoughts as to why my imports are failing would be appreciated, thanks!

    2.1 is quite some time ago, not sure about the plugins.
    Contact Support, ask for me and say it’s an import problem. I’ll get in touch and if you can email me that file I will install that into a 2.1 blog, upgrade that to 2.9, export and test the import. From what you have said that should work.
