Importing from Blogger: total chaos

  • Unknown's avatar

    Greetings!

    I’m a writer. I have a blog: bloglauco.blogspot.com.

I see now WordPress (WP) is much better than Blogger. I signed up for an account in WP. And I was very happy. Now… I’m VERY disappointed. Oh my God — I hope you help me!

Of course I don’t want to have my posts in TWO blogs — the old one and the new in WP. So I have to IMPORT my posts and comments from Blogger. Easy, right?

Please take a look at my new address, bloglauco.wordpress.com. What a mess!!! What should I do??????????????

In Firefox (FF), the white background does not appear; many posts are out of place, in a total mess; the right margin is cut, we cannot read all the lines in some posts; some post titles area all in ALL CAPS, wich is not the default in the template. In Safari and in Internet Explorer 8 (IE), the only problem is the right margin. Well, I use Mac so I thought about a problem with this version, but IE and FF in Windows Vista had problems too. It is really a problem in WP, not in browser or operational system. (I’m sorry for my poor English. I’m Brazilian and my language is Portuguese.)

I deleted everything (posts, tags, comments, cache etc. etc.) and re-imported about 4 or 5 times. Did not work. Next, I tried through a website wich converts Blogger file in WP file. Did not work too. I tried everything! I’m desperate because my blog has both personal and professional use.

I also tried other templates in WP. Then I tried changing my Blogger template to a default one, a light one, and re-imported it. NOTHING WORKS! Everytime the result is the same: total chaos in my new blog.

PLEASE HELP ME!!! I really want to use WP!

By the way, I want to BUY services, like domain and pro features. But… how would I buy services considering the visual does not work??? I want to use WP. I do! But you need to help me… PLEASE… I’m changing to WP just because you have extra features so I want to buy some of them.

    Thank you very much!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s a problem on Blogger’s end; Google has said they’re working to fix it, but sadly there’s no timeline on that. There are a lot of threads on it already; sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a quick fix.

I think my problem is different.

People complain about not being able to import from Blogger. I *can* import my blog. But the result is a total chaos — even worse when Firefox is used.

I’m VERY disappointed. BTW, I sent an email to support but did not receive any answer. WP is really better than Blogger, but I need minimal conditions to use my previous posts.

    @ glaucoadams

Have you tried different WordPress themes to see which is most compatible with you blogger content. I recommend you browse themes [you do not have to activate] as you look. 11/08 I imported over 1,000 post and several hundred comments from 2005 through 11/08 with no problem. I did have to find the theme that worked best for me. I hope this helps. –jim

    Hello!

I received ans answer from support yesterday. Special attention. Thanks.

Problem are DIV tags. I’m deletikng them… ONE BY ONE… about 120 posts…

Anyway, considering WordPress does not work well with DIV tags, the import tool should adapt for that, changing tags for us. Afterall, if they say they can import blogs, they must know how the blog works in the other side.

But that’s ok. Will spend DAYS changing my posts, but I’ll be using WP.

If you have the same problem, take a look at this page: http://support.wordpress.com/themes/layout-issues/

Your blogger blog, http://www.bloglauco.com/ , has 1040 errors and 838 warnings according to the W3C (World Wide Web Continuum) XHTML validator: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bloglauco.com%2F&charset=(detect+automatically)&doctype=Inline&group=0 – and that is just on the main blog page.

That is the reason things are messed up when you import it. You really need to go through your blogger blog and try and fix the bulk of those errors before even trying to import it here. You will likely never get it down under say 300 since even with a brand new blogger blog with NO posts at all, you will have over 300 errors.
