Importing from blogger

akja: that’s an interesting problem. What is your blogspot address?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Andy: That’s really “interesting”…

Error occurred during this stage (57% done):
    “template-edit in progress, please wait…”

    My blogspot URL:
    http://-ooo-.blogspot.com

Current Status of the blogspot blog :
    1. Only list of archives left in the front page.
    2. Inside each archieves, only English posts can be shown, with no formatting (span, original format lost).
An interesting point: in HTML source file of the post page, the alignment/formatting was like the same as original.
    3. For Chinese (Big5) posts, blank post.
    4. all posts have a footer saying
    “12/05/2004 06:33:00 PM|W|P|-ooo-[post-title]|W|P||W|P|110218511190134742|W|P||W|P|[my email address]”

Inside administration menu of blogger, i still see all the posts, but all Chinese posts are encoded as garbage…
    and the template becomes:

“Import from Blogger” worked like a charm…until I tried to click on my blogger blog again…it was completely disabled and a message re-directing to the WP.com site was in its place! Also, my RSS feeds and some formatting stuff in the Blogger blog are still completely fried! Not very cool, IMHO…

However, all that notwithstanding, I do like the WordPress better.

Just dont go screwin’ around with people’s stuff, you know?

The Blogger importer works by changing your template into something it can read. When it’s done, it tries to restore the template. If it fails, you must restore it manually. You followed the directions and made a backup of your template, right?

I can’t import my Blogger blog either. This is the error I continue to get, no matter how many times I try:

“Your Blogger blog did not take the new template or did not respond.”

    The blog is here: http://xjbei.blogspot.com

No posts are imported into .wordpress.com blog either.

    Please help.

The importer for blogger doesn’t seem to be working on my blogger blog. It shows activity but gets to 99% (six times now) and then drops back to trying again. I’d really appreciate any ideas as to how to do this import. I have an extensive blogger blog and can’t move to WordPress until I can accomplish the import.

    Thanks for any help.

Seems I’m not the only one facing problems with the Blogger importer.

My import attempt doesn’t even start:After giving my Blogger username and password, the importer just displays the message “Selecting Blog” and freezes.

    Any help would be appreciated

It didn’t work for me either. Three and a half hours later, I gave up. I just thought I had too many on my old blog to import.

I am trying to import from blogger, but it keeps saying my login info is incorrect. Anybody else faced a similar problem? I know my info is correct coz I just logged out and logged back in with it …

    Thanks,

I have the same problem – Couldn’t resolve host ‘.blogspot.com’Your Blogger blog did not take the new template or did not respond.

I have 661 posts in the blogger account. Is the size the problem?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have an answer. From Blogger BUzzs page it says-

A small number of users are seeing a 553 Permission denied error when publishing to Blog*Spot. If this happens to you, logout of Blogger, clear your blogger.com cookies, and log back in. We are working to fix this problem.

I wasnt experiencing this problem but cleared my cookies and my cache and it worked the first time.

The technical support provided by WordPress for their free service seems to be a bit of a joke in my opinion.

With this in mind I’ll be sticking to Blogger for the forseable future.

I tried again this morning to import my blogger posts, but it will not work.

I really want to move our blog to wordpress … but if we can not import our past posts – I don’t think we will make the move.

Is there a fix coming for this problem?

  • agrypnia – you could also try leaving a feedback message. Granted that not all messages are answered but they are reviewed.

Hello, there. I’m a new WordPress user wishing to import my Blogger entries over to WordPress. I have backed up my Blogger template, so all of that is fine. My real concern is this: once import the Blogger entries to WordPress, will my Blogger blog become empty or otherwise messed up? I have over 100 posts on that blog–too many to back up individually as a text file, for example (don’t know how else I woudl do that)–and am terrified that I will lose them all.

    Help?

  • Unknown's avatar

No, all the skimmer does is read your posts and changes your Blogger theme to something that helps it do so. It does not delete your posts on your old blog. You will have to replace your theme afterwards with the version you saved.

    Good luck,

I just decided to switch from Blogger to WordPress. However, in trying to import, i get this message: “Couldn’t resolve host ‘www.blogger.com'”

can anyone help? i’d like to make the switch and I’m doing exactly what I am supposed to…

any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Well, yes i did back up my blogger template. Lucky me. Not only did the importer fail to import, it deleted my blogger template. The instructions for this importer need to be very explicit about what it actually does. Otherwise it would appear this is just a very handy way to sabotage blogger. I am unhappy with my experience with migrating thus far. it’s been a real pain…

The instructions for this importer need to be very explicit about what it actually does.

First line of the Blogger import instructions:

1.) Back up your Blogger template.

it worked for me today. not sure what the glitch was.
