Importing from .ORG to .COM

Add topic to favorites
I hit the ‘import’ button on wordpress.com, but I get an error saying ‘Sorry, you cannot import to this site.’

Trying to import to https://noformatblog.wordpress.com

I was wondering if maybe the issue is that there are pre-existing posts. If I clear them out, will that address the import issue?

No, that should be just fine, don’t do that. :)

Are you uploading a file ending in .zip or .xml? If the file is ending in .zip, you’ll need to expand it and upload the .xml files inside.

It’s a .XML file, but I can’t even get to the upload stage. As soon as I select “WordPress” for import, it gives me the “sorry…” message.

From what I can see you are an admin on noformatblog.wordpress.com so you should not have a permissions issue of any kind. Are you able to upload your xml file if you visit this link? https://wordpress.com/import/noformatblog.wordpress.com/?engine=wordpress

Also what is the URL of the site you are trying to import from exactly. Your Jetpack connected site at noformatblog.ca?

That link worked. Not sure why it was failing before. Thanks for the help! And yes that was the URL I was importing.
