Importing from self-hosted to wordpress.com

  I’m trying to import my WordPress blog from a self-hosted site to a site on WordPress.com (can no longer afford fees for self-hosting). I’ve exported my data but had to do it as several individual files for pages, posts, media etc as the export failed when trying to do it all in one file. Now I’m trying to import the first data file (the pages, 685K) but it still says it’s importing even though I’ve left it running for over 3 hours. Should it really take this long? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

  Large imports can take up to 24 hours to complete. However, it looks like the importer stalled in this case, so I’ve reset it ready for you to try again. Any content already imported should be skipped during the next attempt.

  Come back to me if you have any more trouble.
