Importing from WordPress.org site: Media Not Importing (Old Links Retained)

Hello,
I’m trying to go from a self-hosted WordPress.org site to a WordPress.com site. I exported all my posts and they imported just fine, however, all the images and links to the images are still pointing to my old self-hosted WordPress.org site.

I can see the images in my media library on my WordPress.com, but the code in the posts was not updated. So, I can’t delete my old WordPress.org site without breaking my WordPress.com blog.

old site example: http://jackbusch.com/blog/food/drunken-noodles-recipe/
new site example: http://jackbusch.wordpress.com/2013/10/06/drunken-noodles-recipe/

If you look at the images, yo can see that they are still pointing to jackbusch.com.

I know there are plugins for self-hosted sites to fix this, but I’m not sure how to accomplish this in WordPress.com.

It looks like the import failed to import images from just a couple of posts. You can upload those images manually and attach them to the posts in place of the current ones.

Hi jackiedana,

Thanks for your response. So, the ones that you are seeing on the blog with proper images are posts I’ve written after the import. I also have about 90 private posts that were imported that you can’t see and the images are still linking to my old WordPress.org site.

I probably will end up doing some kind of manual fix, but I was holding out hope that there was an easy fix.

Hi there,

Our team was able to fix up those images for you, so the images in the imported posts on your WordPress.com site here are now pointed correctly to the images hosted here (rather than your self-hosted site). Please let me know if we can do anything more to help with that!

Hello, I recently exported and imported ALL content from my old site into my new site and all my posts have been migrated. However;

1: Only about 399 media files have been imported out of about 2400 media files.
2: The 399 media files imported still have links to the old website
3: Imported Media files do not show up on my new site front page; http://ridespaper.com but for some if you click on the categories you get to see them

Please give me a solution as soon as possible since I have done the export and import process so many times now but still no change.

Your new site at http://ridespaper.com/ is a self-hosted WordPress blog, so there’s nothing the support staff here at WordPress.com can do to help with the import on that end. You may want to ask for additional advice in the WordPress.org support forums here:
