importing from wordpress.org to wordpress.com
-
I have http://bluevicar.com that is based on a very old version of wordpress.org. As the blog is not very active, I would like to stop paying the management fees and transfer it over to http://bluevicar.wordpress.com. But the files that were exported from bluevicar.com are all .sql files and bluevicar.wordpress.com asks for “valid WXR” files.
I am not very savvy about all of this. Is there an easy way to make this work?
Thanks very much in advance.

Thank you.
I tried that and and the response of bluevicar.wordpress.com was that there was an error and it asked that I use “valid WXR” files. I gather that .sql is not the same.
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I did export from wordpress.org…that’s where the .sql file came from. It is an older version of wordpress.org.

I am thinking that you are going to need to check the support documents over at .org. Do a search over at .ORG and see what you find.

Looking at .org, it appears that the advice is to update to the latest version (from 2.0) first, then try exporting. It turns out that what I’m doing is “backing up” not exporting. Who knew??
Sounds like I’ve got my work cut out for me unless I uncover an easier way. Sad.

I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.:( I’m just finding anything doing a search of the forums here.
