  I just initiated an import of my wordpress.org site to wordpress.com. Will this affect my wordpress.org site?

  No, it wont affect in terms of performance, but it can create duplicate content issue from SEO point of view

  @thearabicdiaries Hi there, as long as you keep your WordPress.com site Private, as it is now, search engines will not be able to crawl it so there is no duplicate content issue here.
