Importing from WordPress.org to WordPress.com, 72 hours later
-
On Tuesday (1/24/17) I started importing with an .xml file of all my content, from WordPress.org to WordPress.com. It has been almost 72 hours since I started the import.
Something that might be a problem is when I look at my WordPress.org website through FTP, is that my website (the WordPress folder of all the files/folders [wp-admin, wp-content, wp-config.php, etc]) is 2.83 GB. I know the limit on free WordPress.com is 3GB.
So maybe I’ve run out of space or it is just taking a long time to import all my content. I don’t know which one.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is the site you have the XML export file from still online?
If yes, what is the URL?
Sometimes the importer gets stuck. If the file is large you may have to import Posts, Pages, etc. in separate files. Or if the file is very large Staff may have to do the import.
I tagged this thread with modlook for Staff help for you. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Yes, the site for the exported XML file is still online: http://www.cuestonian.com/
The XML file is about 28MB.
The site is mostly made up of text and photos. Text is under 1,000 words per post. Photos are not over a 2-3MB. There are 2-3 videos that are about 50-100MB. Nothing else
- should
be bigger, but there might be.

Hi @thecuestonian , if the XML alone is 28MB it’s probably still timing out.
Can you remove any unmoderated and spam comments, and then try making your export once more? There are plugins available for bulk removal. Just be sure you have a backup, too, just in case.

In the meantime, I’ve reset the importer, so if that results in a smaller file (as I suspect it will) you should be able to import without too much trouble.
Do check your media library after import, though. If you’re missing anything compared to the media library on the old site, let us know so we can take a look.

I removed the one unmoderated and the four spam comments.
Reset, as in a restart of the importing process? I went to Import and it is importing. Just making sure I understand.
Or do you mean I should Export again and then Import again?
-
@thecuestonian usually when we see this, it’s due to thousands of spam comments (or one spam comment that’s trying to inject code).
If you’ve removed spam and your export file is still over 15MB, you’ll want to use a splitter to create smaller import files out of the one large export. I’ll email in case you need help with that and would like to send us the export files.

One of the four spam comments had some injected code. I removed it.
I’ll see if the new export is under 15MB. If not, I might use a splitter. OR a WordPress Happiness Engineer said to download the latest export, then upload it to a service like Cloudup or Dropbox. Then I can try importing from your end.
