Importing my data from InMotion

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have a blog hosted on InMotion. I can’t afford it anymore, so I would like to move my stuff to my free blog with WordPress. I exported it, but don’t know how I can import it here. I don’t see InMotion in the list. Also I would like to use my domain name I purchased elsewhere. Please help.

Hi There,
Could you please share the website URL which you want to import to WordPress.com? If you are using self-hosted WordPress software on your blog then you can import it by following steps:-
- Go to My Site(s) → Tools → Import
- Select the WordPress import option
- Type in the site address where the content is currently hosted and click Continue
- On the next screen, you’ll have two options under “What do you want to import?”
Everything – All your site’s content, themes, plugins, users, and settings. You need to upgrade for this
Content only – Import posts, pages, comments, and media only.
Make sure to carefully review the information on the following screen before and then continue continuing. For more details please find below guide:-

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your answers. But the instructions mention self-hosted website, and my blog is hosted on InMotion. Also, I have tried to import from my InMotion export file, selecting WordPress, and the import did not succeed:
413 status code for “POST /sites/59267018/imports/new”
Make sure you are using a valid WordPress export file in XML or ZIP format. -
Hi @dpreznik,
But the instructions mention self-hosted website, and my blog is hosted on InMotion.
The website URL you shared is using the self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) software which is hosted on InMotion. There is a difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, please check this link:-
https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/413 status code for “POST /sites/59267018/imports/new”“Which option did you select to import everything or Content Only and what format file are you trying to import?
Please note, the content only option uses an XML export file from your existing site. The XML export can be created through Tools → Export on your existing self-hosted site.
Hope this help!

Hi @dpreznik,
As I mentioned already, the import uses only XML export files from your existing site. Please check your archive file containing any XML files by extracting(unzipping)it.
You can also export the content in XML format for your website by following these steps:-
https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/#option-2-content-only-exportIn your old self-hosted WordPress.org site, go to Tools → Export and download the .xml (WXR) file to your computer. This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags The XML file contains references to image files (not the image files themselves), so it’s important that the export site is accessible at the same address when using this XML file for importing. If the self-hosted site is not available, uploads and images may need to be transferred manually to the new site. -
Hi there, I’d also like to add this reply from Staff here https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/wordpress-backup-3/ in case it is relevant for you as well:
If you intend to copy the content here, here’s how:
https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/Bear in mind, to copy the exact same themes and plugins you’re using, you’d need a Business Plan. Extra plugins and themes add complexity to our support and maintenance. Our service includes SSL hosting, direct WordPress support, maintenance, and security: https://wordpress.com/business
But you would need to pay for those services. If you want to let somebody else handle the tech work, our services would be great,

Thank you everybody! I did import my stuff. Could you please tell me how I can apply my domain name to by WordPress blog? It is now used with the other blog that is hosted with InMotion, which I am planning to close.
-
Glad to know we could help :)
If I understand correctly, you want to transfer your domain which is currently with another provider to the WordPress.com site. You can achieve this by following this guide:-
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
-
Thank you for your answer. It seems to me that this article is about how to transfer my domain registration from elsewhere to WordPress. This would be more expensive than where it is now. Do I really need it? And it is not clear to me how I can apply the domain to my blog on WordPress.
-
Hello again, to use a custom domain you purchased elsewhere on a WordPress.com website requires an upgrade plan.
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
https://wordpress.com/pricing/If you transfer the domain here, the domain period would be extended for an additional year. You can read about this here: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/#about-domain-transfers
Let us know if you have any other question about this.

Thank you again!
One more question. I exported my subscribers in csv from my previous blog. Can I import them on my wordpress blog automatically?
-
Hello again, frankly, I’m not certain it’s possible, but I’ve flagged this thread for Staff input.
Otherwise, if you have in the meantime purchased any upgrade plan here in order to connect your custom domain, you’re also eligible for direct support by email and/or live chat when posting to the contact form at https://wordpress.com/help/contact Hope that also helps.

Hi there,
It’s not possible to import subscribers via a CSV file on WordPress.com, no. WordPress.com has a strict opt-in-only subscription model, so someone cannot be subscribed to a WordPress.com site without their explicit consent.
The only way to import subscribers to a WordPress.com site, is if they were subscribed using the Jetpack plugin on the site you’re coming from.
If you want those existing subscribers to continue receiving updates, you can use a newsletter service like Mailchimp instead. You’ll be able to then send out newsletters informing subscribers of new posts on your WordPress.com site, and also include your own exclusive newsletter content, should you want to.
https://wordpress.com/support/subscriptions-and-newsletters/
If a newsletter isn’t something you’d want to continue indefinitely, you can use the newsletter to encourage your subscribers to subscribe to the site directly using the Follow Blog or email subscription options we offer.
https://wordpress.com/support/following/
You can also invite people directly to follow your site from My Site ->Users, but you’d need to add each email you want to invite manually. We also have a limit that you can only invite ten people at a time, and there’s a cap on the number of pending invites you can have at any time – someone will only become subscribed to your site once they explicitly accept the invitation. If you have a large amount of subscribers in your CSV file.
