Importing my (separate) wordpress blog page to my wordpress site
-
I have built two sites separately with WordPress and would like to manage them under the same account.
growstrategies.llc or http://www.growstrategies.llc is my main site
kevinmkeenan.wordpress.com is my blog site, which I want to import into my main site.I want it to look exactly the same. I managed to import the posts but not the page/style/template.
Thanks,

Hi! If I understand you correctly, you want to import the content of one site into the other site, keeping that site’s templates and styles.
If so, you can export here: https://wordpress.com/export
Then, go to your dashboard’s tools > import area. You may need to install a plugin to import, but once you’ve got that you can import posts, pages, and more.
Finally, when that’s done, you can either make the old site private here: https://wordpress.com/settings
We also have ways to redirect links and import followers and whatnot. Let us know if you need help with that!

Actually, I think I missed this:
I want it to look exactly the same. I managed to import the posts but not the page/style/template.
You want the main site to look just like kevinmkeenan.wordpress.com, the site you’ve made here? I think I may have got that backward. What do you have in mind the merge?
If you want the main site to look exactly like the new site, I’d recommend exporting any needed content from the old site, importing that here, then connecting the domain. You’d need a hosting plan, but once you have that, we take care of maintenance, security, etc.
Alternatively, you could install that them with your host and copy over your settings. Let us know what you have in mind, and we can advise.

Thanks. And sorry not to be clear. Let me try it a different way and add more detail.
I have two separate accounts: one paid and one free. My hosted/paid account is growstrategies.llc (“Host Account”). It current has two pages: (1) my business page (“Home“) and (2) my poor attempt (“Blog Copy“) at imitating my (separate) free account kevinmkeenan.wordpress.com site (“Blog“).
I was able to import my posts to Host Acccount (using the export/import tool you mentioned) and put them into Blog Copy. But I can’t copy, mimic, or import the Blog page, style or template. Importing the page didn’t seem to work, unless it’s somewhere other than the Pages list and I’m not finding it. And I don’t see any options for using the Blog template. The left sidebar menu on the Host Account is different than the free Blog account menu.
Incidentally, the Blog template is “running the Bitacora theme” but I don’t see a way to access that from my Host Account menu.
I’ll stop there. Let me know if you need more details.
THANK YOU!
Kevin

Oh wait oh wait oh wait. I was able to download the Bitcora style from the last link I gave… Turn on Nerve or whatever… Upload the Bitcora… and it seems to have applied itself automatically to my Blog Copy. So now I’m playing with it there.

But it’s very wonky. Wish I could just import the full page and not have to do extensive clean up.

Hello there,
Many thanks for that extra information.
I have two separate accounts: one paid and one free. My hosted/paid account is growstrategies.llc (“Host Account”).
Ok, so this site is not hosted with WordPress.com, so our support is limited, mainly because we don’t have access to the site.
It sounds like you’re looking to export the content from kevinmkeenan.wordpress.com to growstrategies.llc – to confirm, is that right?
But I can’t copy, mimic, or import the Blog page, style or template.
When exporting content, and then importing it’s only importing the content – it’s not possible to import and use multiple themes and templates.
Incidentally, the Blog template is “running the Bitacora theme” but I don’t see a way to access that from my Host Account menu.
This is usually possible to access via Appearance > Themes.
I hope this helps.

Right. So, now, it’s really f’ed up! D:
- My business site Home is using the Bitacora theme–NOT my goal at all.
- The Blog Draft is using Bitacora–was my goal–but needs reformatting, which I can live with.
Apparently, you can’t use different themes on different pages in one account????
Please help! @aleone89 @supernovia
I of course don’t know what the theme I used before was and didn’t back up the Home page before importing Bitacora.
In retrospect, I should have just kept the two separate. There doesn’t seem to be any advantage from having them under one account, in fact, only disadvantages.

Hi there!
Apparently, you can’t use different themes on different pages in one account????
When you say ‘one account,’ do you mean one site? If yes, then the answer is no. Across the entire site, you can only have one active theme. The theme may have different templates/structures, but the overall look and feel (which is determined by the theme) will be the same.
If you need to use two different designs/themes, you would want to have two separate sites. You can consider using a subdomain for a separate site.
I of course don’t know what the theme I used before was and didn’t back up the Home page before importing Bitacora.
We can check the history of active themes on a WordPress.com site. We don’t have the same for your site hosted elsewhere, though.
So, for your WordPress.com site, before the Bitacora theme, you had the following themes active:
Hope that helps!
