Importing of old backups with different wordpress.com URL’s and probably missing Media files
-
Dear Ladies and gents,
i am trying to import old backups of my site https://slowtemplelovecozmicpurplehealing.wordpress.com, then it had different wordpress.com URL’s like cosmicpurple.wordpress.com but was the same site just different URL handlers. Maybe there are even old Media files missing or exchanged. I allready had this problem once and now it halted the import again like the last time maybe because of the described differences in the files to my actual site, when i had the last time this problem one of your coworkers offered me to put my files into one of your dropbox fileexchange sites and import it from your side wordpress… Could you do that again? I have like 4 old backups i want to import but allready the first backup import halted at 1060 files to still import!
Mayn thanks for listening and your helpin advance,
greetings,

Hi there,
According to our records, you have changed your site’s address quite a few times. I counted close to 20 changes in the last 5 years. Some examples I saw:
- rainbowpeoplesmedicineman.wordpress.com
- writhingelvenkindheartstarlight.wordpress.com
- writhingheartstarlight.wordpress.com
- slowangelchild.wordpress.com
- writhingheartstarlightelvenkind.wordpress.com

- cosmosfatastico.wordpress.com
- cosmicpurples.wordpress.com
- comnicolourlightfantastic.wordpress.com
- cosmiccolourblue.wordpress.com
- cosmicpurplelovlightomnicolour.wordpress.com

Please be aware that when you change the address of your site, the old address ceases to exist in our system and cannot be recovered by staff. The good news is that no contents are lost when you change your site address — anything you had on your old site address is automatically brought over to the new one — so nothing is “left behind” when you move.
However, if you are missing any media on your site (perhaps you deleted it at some point after your address change), those would not be contained in your previous export files. Our XML export files are text only and contain no media. Instead, they contain symbolic links to the media files, and in the import process, we are not able to bring those media files over since the old address is no longer valid.
the last time this problem one of your coworkers offered me to put my files into one of your dropbox file exchange sites and import it from your side WordPress… Could you do that again?
There can be some instances (with very recent address changes) where we may be able to access a copy of the contents from a deleted site. However, in this case, too much time has passed, and none of the previous site addresses you had are in our system, and there is no way for staff to recover media from what you may have had on them.
Let us know if you need further assistance or if you have any questions.

Okay,
could you then cancel the import because it still tries to import and halted at 1060 posts to still import? -
I’ve reset the importer. You can start the process again, and any posts and pages already imported will be skipped.
