importing .org site to .com site taking days?
-
I am moving a wordpress.org site to the free wordpress.com site and I followed the directions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/view-all/
It seemed to work but it has been four days and it still says it is importing. The .org site is a huge photography business site which we closed the studio but wanted to keep on a .com private site.I’m questioning if it will just take a long time because of all the info or if it is stuck or if I need to do it another way.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Just for clarification, you are trying to import an .xml file that you exported from your previous self hosted website?
Best,
Steve

Hey again,
Just as a follow up, keep in mind that the maximum file size for imports is 15 MB. As your previous site is a photography site, it’s entirely possible that the .xml you exported is too large.
You can try exporting your previous site in smaller chunks. By default, WordPress exports “All Content,” but you can select other options such as “Posts” “Pages” and “Projects.” Then you can import them one by one.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the free WordPress site comes with 3GB of storage space, so I would especially keep an eye on the “Media” size if you decide to export and import that.
Let us know if this doesn’t work!
Best,
Steve (with help from Synora and Hanna!)

@christinaphotography2017 And another thought, make sure to delete any spam comments and feedback before you create your Export XML.
Regardless, you’ll need assistance from Staff in clearing out the existing import file. I’ve tagged this thread for their attention. Replies are taking a little longer than usual due to their get-together this week, so thanks for your patience.

I closed our studio in Jan after 16 years and I wanted to find a way to keep what I blogged about for nostalgia. What would be a good way to do that? Suggestions?
-
Hi christinaphotography2017,
I’ve reset the importer on your site. If your .xml file is over 15MB in size, several smaller .xml files will need to exported from Tools > Export on your WordPress.org site.
Please also follow @justjennifer’s suggestion of deleting spam comments before exporting your content as this can substantially increase the size of the .xml files in some cases.
Come back to me if you run into any problems.

Thank you gemmacevans. When I log into my site the importer is still ‘importing’. Is there something I should do?
I can export my site in two smaller files so I think it will work once I can upload it….

Hi christinaphotography2017,
When I log into my site the importer is still ‘importing’. Is there something I should do?
Humm, in that case there are a couple of things you can try:
1. Clear your browser cache using these steps:
2. If that doesn’t work, please try using the WordPress importer in the WP Admin dashboard. This link will take you through to the right place:
https://christinaphotography2017.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=wordpress
Let me know if that does the trick.

Can I import all the different files I have from the dashboard? I had to break up the site into 7 different files to get them under 15mb.
