Importing .php and .sql data from a ceased wordpress blog
-
can anyone help me with some advice – I used to operate a wordpress blog at a web company, where I did work experience, who set me up with hosting, unfortunately after 3 years they closed their servers as they had been taken over.
They sent me the files which they were able to retrieve from a backup, and although I have created a new blog I am unable to import the .php files which they have given me.
It also has an .SQL file but I cannot open that either. Can anyone advise in layman’s terms as I am a blogger not a techie.
I am using W7 64 bit on this laptop
thanks
Rachel

You’ve reached the support forums for sites hosted on WordPress.com. It sounds like your site was hosted with a different provider. For assistance with your site, please post on the WordPress.org forums,

It looks like the domain in question has expired, which could be part of your issue:
http://who.is/whois/student2.redfuseacademy.co.ukIf the domain has expired, you won’t be able to log into the site.
However, if the domain wasn’t registered through WordPress.com, and the site itself wasn’t hosted on WordPress.com, there’s really not much we can do here, since we do not have any access to a site hosted with another company, even if it’s also running the WordPress software.
For more information on the differences, see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
I would again recommend that you post your issue on the WordPress.org forums, as someone there may have some suggestions on how to proceed.

hello Jackie
The domain has ceased as the company (Redfuse) has been taken over – however, as they have sent me the blog files, which they were able to retrieve, and the original blog was done on wordpress, why cannot I import .php and .sql files to my new wordpress.com blog, or do I need to set up a wordpress.org blog?
thanks
Rachel

Okay, I think I see what you’re trying to do.
We do not support imports of .sql files in our public importer. If you can upload the .sql file to a file sharing service so I can access it and download it, I can try to import it manually. You can paste the link here or contact me via email with a link (if you email me, please make sure to note that here, and put my name in the subject line and add the link to this forums post in the message).
I should note that this process has varying results, and it’s possible not all of your content will be imported.

Hello Jackie,
I have placed all the files and a link to a folder in dropbox in an email to you.
Thanks,
Rachel

Hi there Rachel!
I’m currently helping Jackie with this ticket. I have the XML file ready and I just wanted to know where you’d like your posts imported to. Is it “rachelgpblog.wordpress.com”?
Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!

Hi there,
Thanks very much! Yes, that is the blog I would like all my posts to be imported to please.
Do you need my log-in details, or are you able to by-pass that as an administrator?
Thanks,
Rachel

Hello again!
I’ve gone ahead and imported the posts to your blog. Can you please look around and check if things are in order? Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help. Thanks!

I have now checked my blog and am happy to say that everything is in working order.
Again, thank you most sincerely,
