Importing posts leaves media behind
-
Moving from blog address https://traumaanddissociation.wordpress.com to http://traumadissociation.wordpress.com has resulted in some media (images) problems
1. Some images were not being copied to the new blog.
Copying then across manually won’t allow you to set the date of the image upload to match the old blog. E.g. See number of images for September 2013 and October 2013 for both blogs.2. The posts on the new blog which include images all link to the old blog address, but they need to point to images on the new address.
For instance even though the image ftp the new blog, and the library recognizes it as attached to the post, the link still goes to the old blog
https://traumadissociation.wordpress.com/2014/03/26/dissociative-ptsd-subtypeFirstly, is there a way to transfer the missing images across to the new blog, with the dates at correctly?
Secondly, Can all the new blog posts referencing links on http://traumaanddissociation.wordpress.com be updated to reference http://traumadissociation.wordpress.com both for links to images and other hyperlinks?
Example transferred post, which did not have the images transferred so is them from old blog

When we import an XML export file we are prompted. We respond that we do want to include attachments because the attachments are the media files including images. The only images that are imported are those that are attached images. Unattached images cannot be imported.

Firstly, is there a way to transfer the missing images across to the new blog, with the dates at correctly?
The best way to do this would be to try to import the blog one more time. This will not duplicate files that have already been imported, but it should bring across images that were not imported on the first attempt. Can you give this a try? I’d like to see if the missing images come across in this second attempt.
Secondly, Can all the new blog posts referencing links on http://traumaanddissociation.wordpress.com be updated to reference http://traumadissociation.wordpress.com both for links to images and other hyperlinks?
I can definitely update the image links for you so that they point to their new source location! First, let’s make sure all of the images get pulled over. Then, I’ll update the image links for you. We cannot update hyperlinks within your text. Those need to be updated manually.

I just looked and I can’t do images alone. I don’t want to overwrite the existing posts because links in some posts have changed and the posts aren’t missing.
I can’t manually upload the missing images because the URLs will then include the current month, not the month the post was created on (which is used in the blog posts).
I can easily use a tool to list all missing image names – if I post that then could you bulk import the missing images across, then change the links which go to the old blog?
Secondly, if this isn’t possible can you change all the links from http://traumaanddissociation.files.wordpress.com/yyyy/mm/imagename.jpg (or png)
to
http://traumadissociation.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/imagename.jpg (or png)then when I manually upload them this month the paths in the image files will match.

Howdy!
First, can you point me to a post where the image wasn’t pulled over into the new blog with the import? I’d like to see a few of the missing images to get an idea of what we’re working with.

Correct – you will not be able to just import images. However, running the import again shouldn’t duplicate the content. Each of your posts has a specific post ID. So, since that post ID already exists, you’ll end up with a bunch of error messages (“This item already exists”). The import would just bring in content that didn’t already exist (which should include the media items we’re missing).

Hi, unfortunately it seems images are missing from posts that were imported, which is strange.
Going back to the first month the blog began, Sept 2013 – https://traumadissociation.wordpress.com/2013/09/23/struggles-from-living-while-healing/
This links to an image from the old blog even though the images does exist in the new blog.
This one is the same
https://traumadissociation.wordpress.com/2013/11/25/drama-triangle/Looking to Nov 2013, the old blog has 30 images but the new one has 16
https://traumaanddissociation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?author=55100998
https://traumadissociation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?mode=list&attachment-filter&m=201311&filter_action=Filter&s&action=-1&paged=1&action2=-1&affected&_ajax_nonce=bf7059cb00&psOne of the posts affected is
https://traumadissociation.wordpress.com/2013/12/08/inspiring-positive-quotes1/Oddly the images are imported into Dec 2013 paths, not Nov.
It seems changing all paths to remove the ‘and’ from the TraumaAndDissociation.files.wordpress.com links would be best – then it’s a quick task to run a broken link checker on the site to look for image files only

Hi,
Thanks for providing some examples. Just to clarify a bit, for this example:
I see the following image src url:
That does seem to point to your old site. You mentioned:
This links to an image from the old blog even though the images does exist in the new blog.
When I try to load that image on your new site, I come up empty handed:
Do you think you could link me to that file in your Media Library? Just click on the image when you find it here:
https://traumadissociation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
Then, copy and paste the URL in a reply here.
I believe we can get this fixed up for you and import any images that weren’t brought over since the old site is still up and running. However, I just want to make sure we have this correct before proceeding.

Weird! It wasn’t working for me yesterday, but it is working for me now. Thanks for the additional info. I think we can grab any images that we’re imported for you and bring them over as well as change all of the source URLs. I’ll get back to you as soon as we have that done!

Hi!
This should be all fixed up now. Can you double-check the posts on your side just to be sure? Let me know if you find any that aren’t working correctly!
