Importing question

  I have one existing site on wordpress.com, and I just added a new site – paid for the domain and everything for a year. But having thought about things, I want to separate the sites into their own separate accounts. The new site hasn’t been published yet so before I go much further, I’m trying to see if it’s possible.

  I exported the 8 pages I have in draft from my new site. I created a new account but can’t import without the domain selected.

  Do I need to select a new domain for this new account or can I transfer it over? Do I need to pay for the service all over again? Because if that’s the case, I’ll keep it where it is for now. It’s just not ideal.

  Hi there,

  Can you tell me the URL of the site you’re speaking of? I don’t see any sites in the account you’re using to post here.

  If this is for a WordPress.com site you have under a different username, you can transfer ownership of the site and all its upgrades to this account. First, you’ll need to add this account as an admin on the site – that’s a requirement specifically for transferring the domain:

  https://wordpress.com/support/user-roles/

  Then you can follow these steps to transfer the domain:

  https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/transfer-a-domain-to-another-wordpress-com-account/#transfer-domain-to-another-administrator-on-the-site

  And these to transfer ownership of the site itself, which should also transfer the plan on the site:

  https://wordpress.com/support/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

  Note that doing this will remove all billing info connected to the upgrades, so afterwards you’ll have to re-enable automatic renewal manually from the Purchases page. Transferring ownership of the site will also remove the current owner as an admin, so you’ll need to re-invite the other account if you still want it to have access to the site.

  The domain is bringingoutthebest.org, but it’s unpublished. It’s currently living under the “heatoptimists” account. I currently manage both sites, and will for the time being but long-term plan is to have this new site managed by someone else eventually, so it needs its own account. I’m fine with having to log into two accounts.

  I made an account under bringingoutthebestaz but don’t know how to transfer the domain and proof of payment, etc. I’ll take a look at your links and will follow up with any questions I have.
