importing the .xml file from existing site to a new WordPress blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I wanted to make a back up of my site’s post. I created another blog under my existing dashboar, exported the xml file, Imported the file , received the email BUT NOTHING IS showing on the new blog….??? I don’t know what I could have done wrong. Maybe I should create a new blog NOT under my existing one???

It actually showed up ( I apologize for wanting immediate results ) I have a question relating to this though. Is it wiser to back up my site using a whole separate email so the back up is in no way connected to the original? Thank you so much for your time. I really do appreciate your help. Jayne

Just to let you know, – My “back up” site showed up hours later if not the next morning. Jayne

I’m not quite sure I know what you’re trying to accomplish, but here are a couple things that might be helpful:

First, when you create an export file (the .xml file) under Tools > Export, that is your backup file, and can be used to recreate the content of your blog on WordPress.com or a self-hosted WordPress site at any time in the future. You do not need to upload it elsewhere for it to serve as a backup.

Second, it might be worth noting that Google penalizes duplicated content on the web, so having a second site with the same content is generally a bad idea (unless your second site is set to private).

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you still have questions.
