Importing Times Out

Every time I try to import from my old (self-hosted) WP blog to my new wordpress.com blog, I get this message (in Firefox)
The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
I have tried this about 15 times at different times of day and I always get the same message.
The file I am trying to import is a .xml file created with this: http://www.technosailor.com/wordpress-to-wordpress-import/

you should send in feedback. podz can import the WXR for you, but he needs a bit of input from you first.
however, what stage does it stall at? i managed to import a pretty massive file by not remapping the author names in step 2.
also, how big is your WXR file? i’ve heard of errors with Ultimate tag warrior generating massive files.

They fixed that with the last release or so it’s being discussed on the WP-pro mail list.
I import about 80 posts at a time. I just let it go until the error occurs and then remove the posts that made it into your new blog. It’s more of an issue with PHP and the servers over WordPress. I don’t think that there’s a whole lot that can be done with causing issues elsewhere.

It never gets started. As soon as I select the file to import, I get the error message within 5-10 seconds.

If you want, zip up the file, make me an admin for your blog and email the file to me at theapparatus ( at ) gmail ( dot ) com. I’ll be online for a couple more hours and I can import it for you if you want.
