Importing tumblr blog to wordpress

Hi staff, I’m sure you’ve been super busy. The tumblr fiasco probably took you off guard too. We were all given two weeks notice to try to preserve years of digital labor, and WordPress is one of the few sites that can handle whole blog imports. Thank you for your efforts, especially during the holiday season.

I’m definitely feeling a time crunch as I try to preserve my blog(s) in and around a life and work schedule. It looks like my first import is about half done, but I have a couple more blogs I’d like to preserve before tumblr throws the switch on the 17th of December.

These are 18+ blogs and I’m sure they will need to be non-public, but could you have a look and make sure they are acceptable on WordPress? I truly hope so as I am running out of time and have nowhere else to turn to save them in a viable fashion.

Thanks for being here! So many of us are scrambling to preserve our blogs.

  • Hi ryanrokushaku –

Thanks for the kind words :) We are working hard to help everyone get their Tumblr blogs imported on to our system.

These are the user guidelines for WordPress.com.

    User Guidelines

Anything moved here will need to abide by those guidelines.

To speed things up, you could import the other files on to separate, free, WordPress.com sites. They don’t all need to get imported on to the same one, for the sake of getting them moved before the deadline.

I would set up a free .wordpress.com site for each import file. Click on My Sites – Domains – Add. This can all be done under the same user account.

Be sure that your Tumblr account is connected to WordPress.com. There’s still a delay with the import tool, and the jobs are going to wait in line for a bit. Once it starts, the process should complete with in 24 hours.
