importing wordpress blog
-
I have an very old blog hosted elsewhere. I exported the XML, and tried to import it here and recvd an error that the xml file contained no authors.
I cannot upgrade the blog on the other site, since it is shutting down and the admins won’t upgrade the version of php, and thus wordpress will not upgrade.
I also have full backup of the sql db.Since that site is shutting down, I really want to get it up and running somewhere for archival purposes.
Can you help? -
Hi there,
We’re processing your import now from our end, and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please let us know!

That is great!
I have 2 blogs hosted at cairochronicles.
It looks like you imported http://www.cairochronicles.com/jack, and it looks great.
Can you also do http://www.cairochronicles.com/kaddee?Thanks

Hi there,
To clarify, I ran my internal import based on the export file you uploaded, which apparently only had content for http://www.cairochronicles.com/jack
Are you able to create a fresh export file for http://www.cairochronicles.com/kaddee as well? Please download that .XML file to your computer and save it as a .ZIP file. Once it is in .ZIP format, please upload it here: https://cairochronicles.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-new.php
Once it is uploaded to your site, let us know and we can retrieve it, and run the import on our end. Hope this helps!

I tried to upload it as a zip file to media, but it said that file type is disabled.
I then tried to import it, but that failed (as expected) but it did upload the file.
It is listed as a .txt file
https://cairochronicles.files.wordpress.com/2020/12/wordpress-kaddee.2020-11-23.xml_-1.txt
in the media tabPlease let me know if I misunderstood or if there is anything else I should do.
Thank you again.

You need to be on a paid plan to upload .zip files to the media library. But we can use the .txt file by just changing the file extension back to .xml.
I’ve now imported that file to your site as well. Let us know if anything still appears to be missing.
