Importing WordPress.org (self-hosted) database into WordPress.com

Is there any technical reason that an exported .sql file from a self-hosted WordPress site should not be imported into a WordPress.com site using phpMyAdmin? I’ve had some difficulty using the WordPress importers due to the amount of data in the wp-content/uploads directory, and it would be much cleaner/faster to simply use rsync to copy over the media and phpMyAdmin to import the database.

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi @mikejamesdunn,

Because you’re on a Business plan, you can request database access via our developer tools (which gives you a phpMyAdmin‑style interface) as described here:
    https://developer.wordpress.com/docs/developer-tools/database-access/#database-access

That said, many users find the All‑in‑One WP Migration plugin faster and simpler for full‑site moves—including large media folders—since it handles the database and uploads in one step without manual rsync or splitting XML files:
    https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-using-all-in-one-migration/

If you’d like to explore direct database access or encounter any issues with phpMyAdmin, please reach out through the Help Center (offered on your Business plan). We can review this further and see if there’s anything within our scope of support that we can assist you with regarding that export method.

Let me know if that helps.
