Impossible to Add a Favicon

  Hi, I am getting extremely frustrated as I’ve been trying to upload a favicon to my blogs for the last several months and have been unsuccessful. No matter how many tutorials I watch or read on Worpress, they just don’t make any sense. Nothing I have found applies to what I’m seeing on my page. I have been unable to locate the plug-in section even though it says I’m an administrator. The theme I am using is called Manifest. It is a free theme located from the theme pages. The only advice I have read from WordPress Support is “Upload your favicon to your website’s root directory using FTP”. To me this is TERRIBLE advice, as I have no clue what my “website’s root directory” is or where I’m supposed to find such a thing. I am so frustrated. All of my friends who blog have favicons so I know it cannot be that difficult…yet it seems IMPOSSIBLE on WordPress. Please help.

  CLEARLY you are reading the instructions for WordPress.org blogs, not WordPress.com blogs. Stop doing that. That’s your problem.

  Instructions and answers for WordPress.com blogs can be found at http://support.wordpress.com/. You have a WordPress.COM blog.

  If you type “favicon” in there, you find that the favicon function is built in, and is on the Settings->General page of the dashboard under “favicon.” Just upload it there.

  Actually I just went to Settings>General and changed my blog image but there was no favicon section. I just want to make sure blog image and favicon are the same thing? So far it changed the blog image in wordpress but didn’t change the favicon on my bookmarks bar or when i have multiple tabs open.

  When I go to mysite.wordpress.com/favicon.ico it still shows my favicon as the WordPress “W” symbol

  It can take several hours for your favicon to update on your nav bar. Don’t worry. By tonight, or tomorrow, it should be visible. The first time I changed my avatar/favicon, it was the next day before it was visible.

  I can see it now. Nice URL, too! I didn’t notice that before.
