Impossible to add new contributors
-
This is driving me nuts, and I’m getting no help from WP.
Every semester for the last six, I’ve invited my composition students as contributors to our class blog, which allows them to post their work and comment on what other students have written.
This semester, as usual, I sent out approximately 50 invites and walked the students, as they sat at their computers, through every step, one by one: accepting the invitation, registering with a user name and password, waiting for the activation email, and then logging in to WP.
Not one single one of them succeeded in being linked as a contributor to our blog: http://profrenc.wordpress.com/. Some were able to create accounts, but the accounts are not linked to our class blog (under “my blogs” on their dashboards, they have nothing.)
Most, however, were not even able to complete the registration process because, after having gone through the registration process to the point of “activate account,” they received an onscreen error message from WordPress saying activation could not be completed “at this time.” No explanation why.
At present, there are three pages of invitations sitting there. Students cannot move forward. I cannot move forward.
Someone suggested making sure all students had cleared caches/cookies, etc. before going forward with the sign-up process. We did that. It didn’t work.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening or how to fix it? I’m presuming there is not way to add students DIRECTLY as contributors without all this multistep nonsense of invitation, activation, etc., etc.?
Thanks for any help.
